The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Robert Henkel can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

My dear wife Bonnie sent me an e-mail tweaking my memory of this--the anniversary of Bob Henkel's death a year ago. Upon this reminder, a flood of memories returned which included how much I dearly miss him, as well as missing our worship services where we can be face to face, rather than the feeble ZOOM alternative. In fact, I miss the entire Henkel clan--I cannot read my favorite New Testament creed from Philippians 2 without thinking of Joel. And how I miss seeing various women from the Henkel crowd entering our mission post after church (you know, nearby Tim Hortons). But what jumps into my mind and heart about Bob are several visions that keep hopping to the fore--1) the dignity when he read the Scriptures; 2) his wry sense of humour, and one particular incident screams out to me and brings a "humungous" smile crosses my visage: on one particular Sunday just before our worship service began, he caught my eye and began pointing at his head. What's up, I thought? The pointing grew more frantic. Finally, to my embarrassment, I got it. I had forgotten to take off my baseball hat, the very one covered with a bunch of pins which contained most of my radical views. No, I was not trying to make a point. I had simply forgotten to take it off! So, off it came, whereupon Bob and I both smiled and entered into a relaxed pre-worship calm. So, when this COVID-19 nightmare ends, I will spring for coffee at our Timmy's outlet in honor of that beloved gentleman who reminded me that I should worship without my head gear. Much affection to Joan & the family, Oz.. :. .
