Green Burials

A Green Burial is for those individuals that wish to practise an environmentally sensitive burial, visitation and service.

Parkview Cemetery, 335 University Avenue, Waterloo (519-725-9280) has recently developed a Green Burial section at their Parkview Cemetery property. The Cemetery Green Burial rules would have the deceased not to be embalmed, but simply wrapped in a shroud made of natural biodegradable fabrics, so that the body is returned to the earth to naturally decompose. The casket/container is to be an environmentally Green casket designed to easily decompose when buried. For further information pertaining to Parkview Cemetery Bylaws and Rules pertaining to Green Burials, please contact the cemetery directly.

In order to assist those families that choose to have a Green Burial, the Henry Walser Funeral Home has a selection of caskets that are Green and that are environmentally friendly. These caskets/containers are manufactured according to environmentally responsible process of harvesting wood, made with no metal components and lined in biodegradable fabric.
Often Cremation is viewed as being Green, when in fact the actual cremation process does leave a large irreparable carbon foot print on our environment. For those that have selected cremation, the Henry Walser Funeral Home does have a selection of Green environmentally friendly cremation urns.

The decision to have a Green Burial does in no way limit other service choices that may include visitation and services.
