Why People Choose to Plan Ahead

Why People Choose to Plan Ahead

Since we have opened our doors in 2001, Henry Walser Funeral Home surveyed our families as to why they chose to plan their funeral ahead of time.
Here are the four main reasons:

 1. Ease the burden on my family
 2. Avoid emotional overspending
 3. Financial concerns
 4. Peace of mind

Whatever their reason may be, pre-planning seems to have become a logical choice of many. Society understands that they will have to deal with a funeral at some point in their life. Having knowledge makes better informed decisions when needed.

Your family and friends are the most important people in your life, but it will be up to them to decide what to do for you if you have not given any clear instructions. Flowers, music, readings and other simple decisions may create feelings of animosity and disunity as they have their own opinions. Pre-planning eliminates the guesswork and lets your loved ones have peace as they focus on their own healing and remembrance.

Not all families are prepared for the unexpected. Pre-planning prevents them from having to make funeral decisions and financial commitments while under emotional duress. A pre-planned funeral will share the selfless love and generosity you have for those you will leave behind.  According to our resident estate planner, having a funeral pre-arrangements file opened with the Funeral Home of your choice is simply an important part of good estate planning processes. Without it, an estate plan is incomplete.

Peace of mind that comes with knowing that you will say goodbye in a way that genuinely reflects you and your life. By pre-arranging your final wishes you ensure that your family will be guaranteed to have the service you would have wanted on that important day. Your decisions can help your family and friends in their healing process with a service that truly reflects your unique personality.

In summary, we recommend and encourage you to invest an hour of your time with a Class 1 licensed, non-commissioned funeral director to open a documented pre-arrangement file so that your most important funeral decisions are recorded. At that time, you may or may not decide that you want to enter into an optional contract to begin to fund your plan. Your family and executors will thank you.

No one is eager to reach the day of their death, but taking control of that inevitable time and organizing your final wishes is simply the right thing to do for yourself and for your family. Your family will thank you for helping them with this emotional burden.

Here are a couple of survey reasons why people actually pre-arrange funerals:

"I remember when my mother died. None of us kids knew what to do and absolutely none of us knew what she wanted. No one bothered to ask! I'm just not going to wait for my kids to ask me what I want. I'm going to tell them."

"I guess it's because I want things done my way. I want to provide my funeral pre-arrangements to our local funeral home to make sure I get what I want."

You can start your prearrangement through our Pre-Arrange Online Form. We will contact you when we receive this form as many wish to make an appointment to further this discussion with one of our Class 1 licenced funeral directors, through our Contact Us or calling 519-749-8467.
