Joni (Macchioni) Rockhill

Eddie was a hockey player for the Hershey Bears Farm Team in my hometown of Hershey PA in the 50’s/60’s. My father Nordi Macchioni who passed away in 1964, held in high regard Eddie’s friendship and with his brother Myron, who also played for The Bears, as well as the kinship with his sister “Vi” (Violet) Altman and her husband Herb. After my Daddy passed, Eddie had a close friendship with my dearest mother Gemma Rose Macchioni, and visited Hershey annually long after he moved on from playing and coaching for other hockey clubs as well as after his retirement. When Eddie wasn’t able to make the long drive to Hershey, they kept in touch via telephone. For as long as I can recall, we had very endearing and interesting, thought provoking talks with Eddie and his sister & family when they visited our home in Hershey. EVERY YEAR without fail, my mother treasured the yearly visits by putting out the red carpet with delicious homemade Italian meals. She valued close friendships that were maintained; after his sister Vi passed away, they kept in touch. Eddie was a highly intelligent, well spoken, calm, genuine, and a gentle soul, who never had a bad thing to speak of anyone. (Well... everyone except maybe not The NY Rangers!) His pleasant demeanor could not be matched. I will miss our talks, when I would call him, especially during The Stanley Cup Playoffs. Bless your soul, Eddie.
