The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of James Todd can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Drum Teacher

Jim Todd popped into my mind the other day. It was 53 years ago this month, February 1970, that I had my first drum lesson.

He made me feel like a young Buddy Rich. On more than occasion, Jim Todd asked me to "do a long roll" to show-off to one of his house-guests.

When he acquired a new four-tom Ludwig drum set, I begged him to sell me one of his old cymbal stands. I still have it as part of my set-up in the basement. It was one of the very few times in my life that purchased a used item.

I was probably more interested in just spending time with him. Jim Todd was a great guy with an inventive mind. He had a miniature drum set, model boats and designed a cool two-seater pedal-car for his twin Toddler sons.

When my college students ask me do an administrative task, I say “5 bucks”. Now, I know where it came from.
