Mom & Dad

When I saw Dad just a few weeks ago he told me he was so proud to have raised such a large family. When we were young kid's family time on Sundays we played catch throwing a baseball, a favourite we all shared was the frisbee, we even had a plastic boomerang which returned... he was so thrilled and beside himself that we enjoyed throwing that stupid thing around he made one out of wood. Needless to say it never came back. So many weekends for years all we did as a family was go to Elora Gorge with lots of relatives and thoroughly enjoyed being outside and all the barbeques that followed. The last few years Dad and I enjoyed fishing together, I was not one of the hunters in the family, I know he really enjoyed being outside and loved sharing those times with his other sons. I loved playing Crokinole with Dad, he never lost his touch or accuracy playing the game. A game I played with him regularly up until this past Christmas. I'll forever remember those times, not so much the losing part... Mom was very caring and I now cherish talks we had when I was younger. We talked a lot at home out at the farm where we grew up, late into the night about the love of my life, now my wife Terese. Both of my parents loved their grandchildren dearly. Mom loved to play the card game Uno with us kid's at the cottage, she never enjoyed losing as she must have thought we were conspiring against her, pretty funny in our shared comments at the time, moments now remembered. I never watched Mom or Dad play lawn bowling but I heard she really enjoyed the game. Years ago we enjoyed family trips up to the cottage in Southampton we would take Mom and Dad and play a round of mini-golf in Sauble, I'm just glad I was not standing too close to Mom when she missed some of those shots beings she had a club in her hand, said jokingly of course, the ball never cooperated. My Dad loved being outside, hunting and fishing and the games we shared together when we were younger, but... for the most part I'll never forget my Mom was just so very happy and glad that she had so many dishwashers! In years gone by Dad had his wood carvings keeping himself busy and Mom loved getting out and quilting with the ladies from church and as time passed they spent most of their last 5 year's living with my brother Tim and Dianne. I'd like to express my sincere appreciation once more for brother Tim and his wife Dianne for taking such great care of our Mom and Dad, at least I escaped from doing all those dishes!
