Obituary for William Tanchuk

William Tanchuk
Tanchuk, William "Big Bill": August 18, 1928-June 15,2015
It is with great sadness that the family of Bill Tanchuk announce his passing on Monday, June 15th, 2015 at Forest Heights Long Term Care in Kitchener.
Predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Isabel (2013); survived by his sons, Brian (Elaine) and Brent (Ann); proud Papa T to Michael Tanchuk (Allison), Lindsay Waugh (Ben), Brittany Sobisch, Maxine Sobisch and great grandfather to Briar Waugh. Also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Margery McCurdy of Exeter.
From humble beginnings in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Bill enjoyed a rather full and colourful life. Salesman, semi-pro hockey player, Taxi owner, electrician, Bill did it all before opening Style Trend Home Furnishings, Big Bills Bargain Warehouse and later Comfort Plus Furniture in Waterloo. Never at a loss for words, he was both well-known and respected in the furniture industry.
An avid sportsman, Bill enjoyed curling, golf, fishing, and fastball, but most of all hockey. He loved his hockey. Bill was a former owner of the Tier 2 Jr. A Cambridge Winter Hawks and Kitchener Ranger B's as well as sponsoring numerous successful industrial hockey and fastball teams in the Region.
In later years, Bill and Isabel cherished their retirement time spent at their cottage at Poplar Beach with family, friends and neighbours.
Many Heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Forest Heights Long Term Care. Your care, compassion, patience and humour will never be forgotten.
Bill's family will receive visitors at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener (519-749-8467) on Friday, June 19, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. At Bill's request, there will be no service, cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
Characters like Bill don't come along every day, he will be greatly missed!
