McGuire, Reverend Father Terrance (Terry), C.R.

The Congregation of the Resurrection announces the death of Father Terrance (Terry) Joseph McGuire, C.R. of Resurrection Manor, on October 3rd, 2015. He was 81 years old, in his 60th year of religious life and 52nd year of ordained priesthood.

Father McGuire is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Kathleen (Baker) McGuire and Mary McGuire (stepmother) and a brother William. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his brother Sean (Frieda) of Waterloo, his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many friends.

Father McGuire professed his religious vows in the Congregation on September 8, 1956 in Dundas and was ordained to the ministerial priesthood on March 14, 1964 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Fr. Terry began his ministry as a Catholic educator at St. Jerome's High School, Kitchener. Fr. Terry acted as principal of St. Jerome's High School for four years. From 1980 - 1982 Fr. McGuire performed promotion work for the St. Jerome's/St. Mary's Foundation and priestly ministry at St. David's Junior High School, Waterloo and in 1985 became the full time chaplain at St. David's High School.

Fr. McGuire held a variety of leadership roles in the Congregation including Director of Bolivian Missions, and House Superior for Resurrection College and Manor Religious Houses, and served three terms (18 years) as Econom General in Rome. Fr. Terry was a member of a number of committees within the Congregation. He was active in the wider community serving as Chaplain for the Waterloo Regional Police Association, member of St. Jerome's/St. Mary's Building Campaign and High School Board, member of building committee for Waterloo Regional Catholic Social Services, Chaplain for Waterloo K of C #5135 and Chaplain for Kitchener K of C #1504. President of the Canadian Federation of Priests' Senate 1985-1987, Kitchener Westmount Rotary Club member, Chaplain of Waterloo Business Men’s Club, Resurrectionist representative on the Catholic Community Foundation of Waterloo Region (2006-2014) and member of Fr. Funcken General Assembly K of C - 4th degree.

A man of deep faith, hope and love Father Terry's life of faithful service touched the lives of many. Fr. Terry was a man of hospitality and welcome and enjoyed social opportunities.

Visitation of Father McGuire will take place at St. Louis Parish, 53 Allen Street East, Waterloo on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M to 9:00 P.M. A Vigil Prayer Service will be held at 8:00 P.M. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Louis Parish at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 8, 2015. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener. Reception to follow at St. Louis Gymnasium.
