Thoene, Rolf: Passed away suddenly at home on Sunday December 7, 2008 at the age of 79. Beloved husband of Ursula (nee Lamers) for 35 years. Cherished father of Alexandria Thoene. Will be missed dearly by his siblings Margot Van Der Wouw, Grete Pikl and Manfred Thoene all of Germany. Rolf is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in Ontario and Germany. Predeceased by parents August and Martha Thoene and his brother Gerd Thoene.
Rolf was a 30 year member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service Band, a 35 year member of the Concordia Club and a longtime member of the Transylvania Club Hofbrau Band. He retired from EIWO Canadian Management after 30 years of service. Before coming to Canada, Rolf worked in the coal mining industry for more than 25 years. Rolf enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, camping and hunting.
Rolf’s family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday December 11, 2008 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A funeral service will be held on Friday December 12, 2008 at 1:30 PM followed by a reception at the funeral home.
Memorial donations to the Cardiac Fitness Association (Dr. Schaman Clinic, Breslau), Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Canadian Wildlife Federation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
