Merle Crosby Groff, 80, of Kitchener, died June 25, 2015 with his wife by his side, in hospital.

Merle is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Doreen (Hammer), sons Chris (Monica) and Mike and granddaughter Clara. Merle will be missed and remembered by his sister Dorothy Hallman, sister-in-law Betty Groff and brothers in-law Verne Hammer (Joyce) and Bill Hammer (Jane) as well many nieces and nephews.

Merle is predeceased by his parents Simeon and Violet (Snyder) and his brothers Weyburn (Thelma) and Jim.

Born February 24, 1935 in New Hamburg, Merle was a life-long resident of the Kitchener area. An active hockey player in his youth, he worked many years as a stone mason and later with T.A. Appliance. He dedicated his retirement to household projects, fishing, travel and entertaining his granddaughter.

Merle's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467 and will continue on Monday 10-10:45 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. The memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 322 East Avenue, Kitchener followed by a reception.

Merle requested that his body be donated to science.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, St. Mary's Hospital Foundation or Grand River Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
