My Baby Sister

I was the oldest sister of 4 girls and Gloria was the baby. We had 3 older brothers. I remember the day that Gloria was born and as the oldest girl I would help my mom to take care of Gloria. As I was learning to sew I would make little dresses for Gloria and she would be so happy to receive them. We were always very close because of the close bond we shared as oldest and youngest. Shortly after I immigrated to Canada our brother Angelo sponsored Gloria to immigrate as well, and she lived with my husband Fernando and I. I have good memories of this time together-particularly of many afternoons spent in Soper Park. Gloria worked hard at the meat factory and helped me in our home. Soon my husband and I were approached by Jose da Rosa who was interested in my baby sister, and shortly after they were married. Gloria saved her earnings in order to buy her wedding dress, and her reception was held at our Tio Antonino's house. Tia Maria dos Anjos and Tia Maria de Conceicao prepared the meal of roast beef. Later in life, Gloria excelled at embroidery and was a gifted homemaker, growing and canning her own produce. She loved fishing and I have fond memories of visiting her with my family on her boat. She was a loyal wife, a loving mother, and always strived for peace in our family. Throughout her illness she always had a positive attitude. I will always love her and I will cherish her memory.
