Kenneth (Ken) Harvey Wettlaufer
Wettlaufer, Kenneth (Ken) Harvey

Left this world peacefully on June 12, 2012 in his 90th year, to be with his beloved Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and His Holy Mother, Mary. Ken died on the eve of his 70th wedding anniversary, with loving family by his side.

He is survived by his wife Bernice, their three sons and their wives - Wayne and Marilyn, Larry and Edie, Ken and Brigitte - all of Kitchener; grandchildren, Leanne (Ryan), Peter, Katie and his great-grandsons, Tyler and Carter. Ken will also be missed by his brothers, Roy of Kitchener, Glen of Dundas, Bob (Suzie) of Guelph and sister, Carol Barnes (Bill) of Kitchener and lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Evelyn Wettlaufer, sister-and-brother-in-law Marnie and Bill Wharnsby of Waterloo and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Gertrude (Sararas) and Clarence, mother-and-father-in-law Sylvia (Dorscht) and Ed Bordman, brothers Donald, Gerald and Willard, sister Lillian, sisters-and-brothers-in-law Cal MacShara, Ruby and Ab Mathers, Harold and Shirley Bordman, Roxie Wettlaufer, Helen Wettlaufer, Jean Wettlaufer, Yvonne Wettlaufer and Hazel Wettlaufer, nephews Tom and Bob Mathers and Terry Wettlaufer.

A veteran of World War II, Ken served as a member of Highland Light Infantry of the Royal Canadian Army in England, Holland, Belgium and Germany.

Born on a farm near Kitchener, Ken instilled in his family the virtues of honesty, integrity and hard work. For this, they dearly thank him. He taught them a love of God, sport, the outdoors and the value of treating others well.

At Ken’s request, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Daniel Roman Catholic Church, 29 Midland Drive, Kitchener at 11:00 AM on June 16, 2012 with a reception to follow in the church hall.

Heartfelt gratitude is extended to Dr. Kelly and nurses on the 5th floor of Grand River Hospital along with Lucy and Allison at Freeport Palliative Care Unit. Also, a special thank you is extended to Dr. Jagas and his staff, who prolonged Ken’s life these many years.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, through Henry Walser Funeral Home, to St. Mary’s Hospital Cardiac Centre in Kitchener, St. Anthony Daniel Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
