Obituary for Elizabeth Clara Scott

Elizabeth Clara Scott
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our precious mom, Elizabeth (Betty) Clara Scott (Kipfer). Betty was 89 years when she passed away on July 14, 2020 at Heritage House Nursing Home in St. Jacobs. Daughter of Nick and Selma Kipfer (Fetter) and stepmother Jetret Manser and sister to Clarence Kipfer and wife Isabel, their daughters Marilyn (Jim) Engeland, Kate (Gary) Skelding and Joyce (Richard) Sloat. She met her late husband, Garnett Scott of Donegal and was married on June 7, 1952 at St. Peters Church in Milverton. She is survived by her six children, Dennis (Jaycinthe) Scott, Wendy Sutherland, Cheryle (Steve) Moore, Valerie (Perry) Smith, Debbie Stahlke (Kevin Cook) and Annette Straeten. Also fondly remembered by thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Mom worked at several businesses in Milverton throughout the years including BMV Manufacturing, Milverton Hotel and Brunner Nursing Home. In 1985 they moved to Kitchener where she worked at Forest Heights Nursing Home until retirement. Later, mom and dad moved to Highland Place retirement home and it was here that dad passed away November 9, 2009.

Along with raising six children on a “shoestring budget,” Mom developed a passion for cooking and gardening. She was a known for her “green thumb” and horticultural knowledge just like her father, Nick. She greatly enjoyed sewing and tending to her gardens, feeding the birds and going for long walks. This continued throughout her 89 years of life. These joyful passions have also been lovingly inherited by her children and grandchildren. Mom also looked forward to holiday time, traveling to New Brunswick and British Columbia to visit family.

Mom will always be remembered as a modest, thoughtful person and simply would say, “I can’t complain.” She genuinely showed a personal interest in others, being helpful, and loved to socialize. This kindness and appreciation extended into her ongoing volunteer work that she contributed to at Highland Place. Several times mom was awarded a Certificate of Achievement that encourages, inspires and has an overall positive impact on our community.

During the later years while residing at Highland Place, mom was fortunate enough to meet her loving companion, Murray Schneider. The family often jokingly referred to him as “her boyfriend.” This always brought a warm smile and a giggle. Their caring companionship has touched our hearts deeply. We are forever grateful that mom found love and joy again…proving its never too late! Our beautiful, caring mother will lay to rest at a private interment at Donegal Cemetery on Wednesday, July 22, 2020. Always in our hearts Mom, love you!

*Our heartfelt thoughts go out to all the families that are experiencing Covid restrictions with their elderly family members in care. The impacts of Covid go far beyond the restrictions and isolation. Sadly, it accelerates loneliness, dementia and depression. It is essential that we reach out and stay in touch with our loved ones in whatever ways we possibly can.
