Peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the Freeport Health Centre at the age of 86 years. Beloved husband of the late Anna Schmidt for 60 years. Loving father of Theresa Griffin, Mary (Gerry) Gottwald, Joan (Mark) Wayment, Pattie (Bill) Baulk, Joe Halk and James Halk. Very proud grandpa to Timothy, Christopher, Catherine, Andrew (Charity), Wendy (Jeremy), Emily (Janith), Heidi (Jeff), Laura (Jonathan), Matthew (Erin), Patricia (Tom), Amanda (Mark), Stephanie (Jose), Jason and Thomas and great grandpa of Patrick, Braeden, Moira, Xavier, Riley, Tyson, Weston, Nolan and Mason. Dear half brother of Jerry Steffler (Helene) and step sister Rita Taylor (the late Jack). Predeceased by his brother Lloyd Halk (Anita), step brothers Wilfred Steffler (the late Teresa) and Jerome Steffler (Lorriane) . Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Don was very active in his senior years, and was an avid lawn bowler and he loved to play a game of shuffleboard or baseball. Don loved to sing and for many years, he sang O Canada at the Kitchener Auditorium, and was a member of the Glee Club, the Kuntz Choir and St. Teresa's Church choir in his senior years. Don was proud to sing at the weddings for his daughters and granddaughter.

Don's family will receive relatives and friends from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. with parish prayers being recited at 2:45 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2015 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener (519) 749-8467. Prayers will also be offered at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 10:20 a.m., followed by a procession to St. Teresa's Church, (44 Leonard St., Kitchener) for a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Fr. Tom Moisan officiating. Immediately followed by a Reception in the church hall. Interment Woodland Cemetery.
