Just heard the news of the passing of Lennie (that's the name I know him by) and it's brought a bunch of memories flooding back.
I quit school at 17 (1974) and went to work at Ontario Drive and Gear in New Hanburg.Lennie and some of his friends worked there andI he encouraged me to apply there. Admittedly, we were a bit wild and I didn't work there long. (no, I didn't get fired!) I got to know Lennie quite well there and we hung out together a lot. It was a tumultuous time in my life and Lennie was a good, solid friend. He would always listen and offer encouragement when I was down. At that age he was mature (most of the time!) and had the qualities of a gentlman. He was classy even when driving his orange Ford Falcon!
I've been in BC now for 40 years and the last time I saw Lennie was in 1979. He was an individual who had a big impact on my life albeit for a short time. I've thought of him from time to time and now that he's gone I have regrets that he probably never knew what he meant to me.
I'm realizing now that this life journey is a short one. May we all be able to say, that at some time, we were able to share part of it with a gem like Lennie.
