One of my fondest life memories was shared with my Uncle Harry. Uncle Harry, Dave, my Dad, and I had rented a cabin for a few days near Napanee to do some fishing. I’m not sure why but I don’t think our cousin Robert was with us this trip. So this one morning Uncle Harry and I decided to go out on the water just before sunrise. Dad was feeling the best and Dave, well it was at sunrise and besides he was over exerted from the previous day catching Sheepshead. The rest of us fished Pickerel but David has a knack for catching Sheepshead! Anyway, Uncle Harry and I spent an awesome few hours catching fish and talking about life. He loved his family especially Aunt Rita. He was genially grateful for his life and it was very evident that he relished in the simple things; like throwing a line in the water with his nephew, son and brother-in-law. I am not sure exactly why those few hours have stuck with me for so long but I think it was because we both recognized how close we were to God at that time. Watching the sun come up, seeing some wildlife drink at the river’s edge, fish jumping and an honest discussion with no pressure, expectations or hidden agendas. I will always remember Uncle Harry for his calm demeanor and positive outlook on life. I know he wasn’t like that all of the time, none of us are, but for me I will never forget our time that special early morning.
