Gary Simpson

I met Gary in the early 80’s when I was in sales and he was with E&E. He was a little intimidating at first. But as we became friends Gary was great to deal with because you know where you stood with him, there was no smoke and mirrors.

Gary took his job seriously for the most part. I have a vivid picture in my mind of Gary with his face on his desk and I was not sure if it was because what he was reading was too small of print or he was catching a cat nap.

I remember one of the first ladies nights in Guelph. We were short one person at our table but between myself and Gary we made sure that we got that person’s food and of course we ate it and also drank the extra wine

Gary had many, many friends at work and throughout the waterworks and construction industries.

I will miss our Christmas lunches we had almost every year since we both retired. Gary, Laurie, Brenda and I would meet for lunch and spend hours just catching up on life.

As you all know Gary wasn’t a huge fan of golf but did go out one in a while. There are different ways to stand and hit the ball straight which Gary did quite often. He would stand at a 45 degree angle and it was hard to watch him. The ball for the most part would end up in the Fairway! I could not watch it because I found myself trying it and messing up my game, which didn’t take much.

Gary was great to have in your foursome because you did not need to throw grass in the hair to see which way the wind was blowing. Just look at Gary’s Comb-over and see which way it was blowing.

My good friend Gary was known for always wearing a gold shirt with one company or another’s logo on it. When I came to see him if he didn’t have my company logo on it he would hang a yellow sticky note over whatever he was wearing that day.

Thank you Gary for our friendship and get a tee time ready because I will be playing by the time I see you again. RIP my friend.
