Now home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Ilse passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family in the early hours of Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital at the age of 88. Beloved wife of Harry with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Loving mother of Ilona (Rolf) Bodendorfer, Mark (Helga) Hermann, Susan Hermann and Birgit (Larry) Pellizzari. Cherished Oma of Sarah (Curtis Waldeck), Erik, Jonathan, Daniel, Katrina and Sophia. Ilse is survived by her sister, Hedwig Ebert and sister-in-law, Margit Nebel both of Kitchener as well as Edith (Fritz) Holtz and Erwin Hermann of Germany. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her parents, Hugo and Melida Nebel and brother, Georg Nebel as well as sister-in-law Traute Kozlowski and Kaethe Findling.
She was a long-time resident of North Dumfries Township before moving to Fairview Mennonite Home four years ago. Her family was always her highest priority. She enjoyed gardening, baking and sewing. She was renowned for her pecan pie.
A special thank you to the caring staff and friendly residents at Fairview Mennonite Home in Cambridge as well as Dr. Brian Bell and the staff from the 5th floor at St. Mary's General Hospital for all their care and compassion given to Ilse during her last days.
Ilse's family will receive relatives and friends from 7- 9 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Visitation will continue from 1-1:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017. A funeral service will take place in the chapel at 2 p.m. Reception to follow.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Martin Luther Church or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
