On Sunday, August 5, 2018, Bob Hertert died peacefully at 96 years. Dad was the last surviving member of his family that included his father Irwin, step-mother Aurelia and siblings, Otto, Lotja and Erna.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Stella and grandson Jerry Vlcek. Bob was a Polish war veteran who met Stella at a parish dance. At the time, she was twice widowed and marriage was the furthest thing from her mind. Still, love found a way and Mom and Dad were happily married for 67 years. Father Edwin Lapinski CR was with them to celebrate their 25th, 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries.

Carrying on Dad's legacy are Kathy (David) Buhlman, Richard Hertert and Christine Vlcek. Cherished grandchildren: Michael (Christine) Buhlman; Cheryl Mallory (Steven); Steven (Lori) Buhlman, Christopher (Karen) Buhlman and Arin Vlcek. Great-grandchildren: Jennifer, Sarah; Leah, Julia and Elizabeth; Emma, Benjamin and Olivia. Amara Pilgrim is a great-great-grandchild.

Dad was twice wounded on the battle field in WWII. Later in the war, he became a military policeman with General Anders. He was an honourary lifetime member of the Polish-Canadian Legion, Br. 412. for over 30 years, he worked hard for his family at Kaufman Rubber. Dad enjoyed being with people and making them smile. Sharing a meal, dancing, singing and playing cards were favourite past-times.

Over the years, he valued his friendships with staff and residents of Terrace on the Square and Lanark Place (and Heights).

Bob's family will receive relatives and friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467, with Parish prayers 6:00 p.m. Prayers will also be offered at the funeral home on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 9:20 a.m. followed by a procession to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 66 Shanley St., for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Sacred Heart Church - Building Fund or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
