Condolence: Rest In Peace, Mr. Klos. Bill was a larger than life influence on many of us during and after our time at St. Jerome's. Not only in the classroom, but on the stage and in so many other ways, Bill Klos lived and breathed St. Jerome's and had an impact on all who passed through her doors. You are remembered, and will be missed.

Condolence: Farewell, my friend.

This past Wednesday, many of us learned about the passing of our beloved former high school teacher, Bill Klos. I have to be honest, I struggled yesterday to find the right words to express how saddened I am by this and how profoundly this man shaped my life and who I am today.

I met Mr. Klos in high school, sometime in the 1980-81 school year. He was the student activity director and a respected and sometimes feared English teacher who gave the best of himself and expected you to do the same. Period.

In the years that followed, Bill challenged me as a teacher, especially in his Grade 12 English course. But more he educated me in life skills by giving me opportunities and encouraging my leadership development in different aspects of school life - from managing the school bookstore to theatre production to eventually serving as Secretary-Treasurer on our Student Council Executive in Grade 13.

To so many of us, Bill was more than a teacher or a Student Activity Director. Yes, he was all that - but he was so much more. He was a musical director, a musician, a community volunteer, a political volunteer, an advisor, a mentor, a father-like figure, and most of all a friend. He was definitely in the top 5 people who influenced my life and the person who I am today. Thank you for that, Bill.

When I became Mayor, Bill liked to still remind me, as he has done to so many of us, that he still had his old mark books, and if I misbehaved, they would all become public. Now we just have to worry about who he has left those with.

Bill, you've impacted thousands throughout this community and around the world. We will forever be indebted for that. We will all miss you profoundly, but you have earned your rest, my friend.

To Chester, Bill's family and close friends who were like his extended family, please accept my prayers and sincere condolences.

Rest in Peace, Bill.

Condolence: Thanks to Bill in so many ways. He inspired my brother John Kaufman to follow in his footsteps , mentoring along the way. He enriched our meals at our home and cottage with his wit and erudite observances. He accepted the romance and eventual marriage to Nancy Wunder ignited during the
Production of Camelot. My mother Gen grew in confidence as he nurtured her in an executive role with the Mothers’ Guild. At John’s untimely death he lent support and strength to our whole Family. We will be forever grateful .
