Obituary for Wilford Phillips

Phillips, Wilford ("Chappy"):

Passed on to his heavenly reward on May 7, 2023 at The Village of Winston Park LTC in Kitchener, ON at the age of 88.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Verona Phillips in 2012. Also predeceased by his sons Georgie and Paul Phillips, as well as his daughters Michelle Cherry and Susie Angell.

Wilford will be greatly missed by his children Paulette, Peter, Raymond (Linda), Denton (Shannon) and Dino Phillips. Also left to grieve are his nephews Gerald Mallett and Leroy Davis, his niece Cynthia Brown, 27 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren,

He will be forever cherished by his loving sister, Hermine Davis.

In his working days, Wilford was a proud mason and concrete finisher. He was also a faithful and active member at his church, International Gospel Centre, where he taught Sunday School for 40 years and served as an usher. He also loved to sing for the Lord and for many years he was a member of The Golden Gate Singers (formerly named Redeemer). Anyone who knew Chappy knew he LOVED to dress and he knew how to do it well...this man had swag for days!

It cannot be stressed enough how grateful the family is to the staff at The Village of Winston Park LTC. Some staff would visit him on their lunch breaks, just to see him and say hello. Others would bring him treats, cook for him, or would drop in to give "papa" a scalp rub just to make him smile. To those who showed him so much love and care, always know that he loved you right back.

Wilford's family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Visitation will continue from 9:00-9:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at International Gospel Centre (35 Charles St. E., Kitchener). The Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Woodland Cemetery immediately after the service. A meal will be served back at the church hall, as per Wilford's wish that his friends and family should eat well while celebrating his home-going. Those unable to attend may view the service here: https://gospelcentre.net/specialservices/wilford.html.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the International Gospel Centre - Missions would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
