Obituary for Wilbert Sommers

Sommers, Wilbert Joseph;

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Innisfree House, Kitchener, on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at the age of 95. Wilbert was a life-long resident of Kitchener.

Beloved husband of the late Therese (nee Keating) (2010). Loving father of Mary Ann Stephenson of Waterloo, Patricia Sommers (John Myckan) of Kitchener, Helen Rogers of Burlington, William Sommers (Christine) of Ottawa, Paul Sommers of Kitchener and Jeffrey Sommers (Robin) of Burlington.

Cherished Grandpa of Warren, Patrick, Zoe, Kasey, Christopher, Sarah, Owen, Hayley and Sydney. Great-grandpa to Lincoln, Anna, Alice and Clara.

Dear brother of Margaret "Peggy" Elmore.

Wilbert will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Mary (nee Graf) Sommers, sisters, Ethel Kehn and Joan (Art) Kropf, his brother James "Jim" (Jeannette) Sommers, his son-in-law David Stephenson and brother-in-law Russ Elmore.

Wilbert worked 49 years at Krug Furniture where he was Plant Manager for many years. He was also an Honourary Life Member of the Woodworking Sector of the IAPA.

He was a devout parishioner of St. Anne’s Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was an Honourary Life Member and past Grand Knight and District Deputy of the Knights of Columbus, Kitchener Council 1504. Wilbert was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Seniors Club and the founder and long-time President of the Knights of Columbus bowling league.

Wilbert was a past President and Life Member of the Kitchener Minor Hockey Association. He was an avid golfer and an expert bridge player.

Wilbert’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, on Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Proof of vaccination will be required to attend visitation at the funeral home .

All are welcome to the Funeral Mass at St. Anne’s RC Church, 268 East Ave., Kitchener, on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 10:30am. Interment at Woodland Cemetery.
