Obituary for Tula Souroukis

Souroukis, Tula:

Passed away in her home unexpectedly yet peacefully, on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the age of 81.

Beloved wife of the late John Souroukis (1997).

Loving mother of Konstantine (Christina), John, and Maria Souroukis. She will be missed by the family dog, Jake.

She will be remembered by her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends here and in Greece.

Predeceased by her parents, John and Marika Tzanne; and siblings Amanda (George) and Dionysus (Helen).
Tula was born on the island of Kythera and after graduating high school she left for Athens, where she worked at a women’s clothing retailer. She soon met her husband-to-be, and moved to Germany where he was attending technical school. After the birth of their first son, they decided to come to Canada. She gave birth to a second son followed by a daughter in Windsor, Ontario. Soon after, the family moved to Sarnia and as the children matured, she became involved in the Greek Orthodox Community and worked at several Greek restaurants.

After coming to Kitchener in 1987 she opened her own business as the owner/operator of Country Corner Restaurant in the Highland Hills Mall where she retired in 2004. Unfortunately, the following year she suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage. Her strength and determination allowed her to enjoy life and spend summers on Kythera.
In the fall of 2022, she moved to Trinity Village and enjoyed all the recreation activities and enjoyed the company of her many new friendships. Tula's uncle was a Bishop for the Islands in Greece based in Santorini. Because of this strong faith, she was a member with Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Kitchener.

Arrangements entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.

Tula's family will receive relatives and friends at Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 527 Bridgeport Rd., Kitchener on Friday, March 24, 2023 from 10-11am. The service will begin at 11am. Interment Parkview Cemetery with a reception to follow in the church hall.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church  would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
