Obituary for Troy N. MacRae

Troy Normann MacRae
October 27, 1986 - December 7, 2023

Troy Normann MacRae, of Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, died unexpectedly on December 7, 2023. He was 37 years old. The family is devastated and shocked by his sudden death due to an acute medical condition.

Troy was born on October 27, 1986, the firstborn child of John David MacRae and Anne Barbro Normann in London, Ontario. He spent his childhood in Carlisle, Ontario surrounded by his loving family. He attended Waterdown District High School where he was an avid hockey player and went on to complete his undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo in Kinesiology where he was a trainer for the varsity hockey team. He subsequently found his calling as a paramedic with additional training at Conestoga College. Troy was proudly employed by the Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services where he served his community and assisted countless individuals with emergency medical issues. As the son of two doctors, a former trainer, and as a truly gentle spirit, he was a natural when helping those in need of his care. His time on the road included the harrowing and uncertain times of the pandemic which demonstrated his bravery and selflessness.

He is pre-deceased by his dear father, John MacRae. He was a doting son to his mother, Barbro Normann; a goofball of a brother to his sisters, Tonja MacRae, Cara MacRae (Jason McConnery), and Elin MacRae (Evan Gwartz); a beloved grandson to Jean M. MacRae and nephew to Jeannie MacRae, and his many Norwegian aunts and uncles; a dear cousin to Jaclyn MacRae (David Ferreira), John MacRae (Anna Czyrny), Ann Galatiuk (Derrick McCutcheon), and his many Norwegian cousins; a committed co-parent with his ex-wife Glynnis Marie Pardo; and most fervently, a devoted father to his son, Tavin John MacRae, who was the very centre of his world.

Those who know Troy will remember him as a sensitive and proud soul with a wry sense of humour and a strong desire to help others. They will remember his love for barbecuing, playing hockey, video games, and most clearly, spending time with his family. His friends and family will also remember his typical MacRae stubbornness and can-do attitude in the face of immense challenges both physically, emotionally, and mentally. He will be forever missed and we rest only in the knowledge that his mind has finally found peace. We dream of him walking hand in hand with his father.
