Schmidt, Tibor:
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Freeport Hospital at the age of 86.
Beloved husband of the late Renate (nee Gerstenkorn)
Loving father of Corry (Jeff), and Trevor (Lisa)
Cherished and caring opa of Howard, Jonathan, Leo and Evelyn
Dear brother of Risty (Janice), and Valerie
Predeceased by his parents John and Elizabeth Schmidt.
Tibor was a man of many interests and skills. Born in Hungary, he immigrated with his family to Canada in 1950. He took on responsibilities of earning an income at an early age. From washing cars, to car mechanic, to construction and eventually entering the elevator industry, Tibor understood the benefits of honest hard work and of having an easy-going personality. Tibor eventually owned and operated his own elevator company servicing southern Ontario.
For the past 50 years Tibor lived on the farm he shared with his brother, and having two families on the property brought him the sense of community he was familiar with as a child in Hungary. He loved the space and active life that the farm provided, and how it would bring family and friends together.
Tibor enjoyed many pastimes including sports, hunting, fishing, boating, and creating new inventions. His mechanical mind kept him sharp right through to the end. His greatest joy however was spending time with family, his favourite – naturally – being his grandchildren.
Tibor's family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Reception to follow in the church hall.
As per the family's request, we ask that all guests wear a mask during the visitation and service.
