Obituary for Terry Mason

Mason, Terrance (Terry)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and friend, Terry Mason on Sunday May 8th at the age of 80. With his three children and their families by his side, Terry slipped away quickly and peacefully after an incredibly hard fought battle - often being told by doctors, he was the toughest guy they knew. The greatest gift that we could give our own mother on Mother’s Day was to send her best friend and love home to be with her for eternity. Terry was Predeceased by his wife and best friend Joyce (Brown), his adoring parents Dorothy (Matthews) and Duncan Mason and his loving in-laws Walter and Hilda Brown (Day). Dearly missed by his loving children, Bryn (Anne), Kelly (Mike) and Kristi (Shawn). An incredible PopPops to Jack, Jessica, Lauren and Madelyn.

Terry was born, grew up and raised his own family in Kitchener-Waterloo. Anywhere we went, there was someone he knew, always a big smile and handshake for him, he was just a nice guy. He was a fierce football and hockey player throughout his youth and University days. He attended KCI and opened Eastwood Collegiate in 1956 - always a proud Rebel. Terry graduated from the University of Guelph and the University of Waterloo and spent his entire career in animal health pharmaceuticals. Terry loved animals and always had one of his beloved boxer dogs at his side. He knew all the Jeopardy questions, a whiz with word games and was the crossword king his entire adult life. It was common to come around the corner to see Terry with a cup of coffee, bent over a crossword puzzle.

Terry received a letter one day that would change his life incredibly in his last years. Uniting with the son he always knew was out there, but never thought they would ever meet in this lifetime. Bryn and Terry created a strong bond from the first moment and it carried him through to fight a little harder and stay a little longer.
At this time, his family is reminiscing and missing him greatly. We thank all of the loving and caring PSWs who brightened his days over the last few years and we thank all our family and friends for their love and support since dad’s passing. We will come together in remembrance of Terry at a celebration of life this summer.

If you should so choose, a donation to the Kitchener - Waterloo humane society would be greatly appreciated in honour of Terry’s love of animals
