Svetic, Stjepan
Passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Palmerston and District Hospital at the age of 70. Beloved husband of Mira. Loving father of Kresimir (predeceased - 1993), Paula Scheben (Matthew) and Jelkica Banovic (Kevin). Proud "Deda" of Lucia, Juliet, Josefina, Luka and Alen. Dear brother of Boza Resetar (Danijel) of Croatia. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Stjepan deeply loved his family and lived for spending time with all of them in his home in Moorefield. Throughout his illness with cancer he only spoke about going “home” to be with his dear wife Mira, his first love. He loved his grandchildren, “fixing” things and “building” things for them. His greatest joy was putting together monkey bars with his grandsons from an old ladder and building a doll wardrobe for his granddaughters (a joint effort with his wife who crocheted all of the doll clothing arranged on little hand-carved wooden hangers). He loved wood working and moved to the country with hopes of maintaining this hobby. He also loved photography, with countless photos on the walls stamped with his photo name “Photo Lucia” after his first grandchild Lucia.
Stjepan was a tool and die maker of auto parts at Budd Canada for over 30 years, where he took pride in performing his job with precision as a master of his trade. He also built many lasting friendships. A few years after retiring, he moved to Moorefield to enjoy a few peaceful years in the heart of Mennonite Country, surrounded by wonderful neighbours.
Stjepan’s homeland of Croatia was always close to his heart. In his early days in Canada (the 70s) he was very involved with Croatian politics in the hopes of seeing an independent Croatia, a dream that came true. He also spent much time in the Croatian Club in Breslau, helping to bring Croatian families, young and old, together; a dream that today is holding strong.
Stjepan will be remembered by all of his friends and family as always having something to say and making people smile. Though Stjepan didn’t want to have many visitors during his illness, he kept his memories with his extended family and friends close to his heart to give him strength. He knew he was loved by many.
Stjepan will receive relatives and friends from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Prayers 8:30 p.m. Monday. Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 305 Laurentian Drive, on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 10 a.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Reception to follow.
