Condolence: Steve I remember you being larger than life with that great sense of humour that you always displayed. It is hard to believe that you have been gone for a year. We always shared a laugh and a smile when we ran across each other over the years we worked with "Metro." God Bless to you and your family who I know miss you so much.

Condolence From: ANGELE & RICK WATSON
Condolence: Jackie and "Dad". We are so sorry for the loss of Steve. We just found out today. When I think back, we met Steve in 1990 while working at It's Showtime. I think it was his sense of humour that drew us together at first. From that point on, until we moved away in 2007, Steve, Rick, Laurie and I had been really close. Sadly we lost touch. We'd had a nice visit in Bradford just before he moved and a few calls and texts following but that was all. The memories we have of Steve could keep me going the next 20 years: Chamber of Commerce golf tournament in January in the snow, hunting raccoons and tree cutting at our home in Holland Landing, helping us sink several sand-point wells, trips to the cottage ( he and Rick became a lovely pair of lobsters once). ALL of the soccer games we went to watching him on the field with the York Region Police team, walking in circles in York County hospital waiting for him to regain consciousness after his heart attack, being his steady Tuesday date for the giant movie theatre at highways 7 and 400 for the several months following his Achilles heel being torn, going to the dances at the halls in Bradford on a regular basis, helping us move several times, meeting all of our family and friends, showing up at the end of our 25th anniversary party just to help clean up and SO MANY MORE wonderful memories. I could go on for ages - at least we have photos to remind us of a lot of these times. We will remember Stephen fondly. Please contact us regarding his memorial. With love - Rick and Jelly

Condolence: Our condolences to all of Steve’s family. I worked with him in 12 CIB, and both Rick and I knew Steve. The Steve we knew was always on the go, happy, and looking forward to his next adventure. That’s how we got to know him when I was working with him. He was a very dedicated and diligent detective, who worked tirelessly to solve any situation or case that presented itself for the betterment of all involved. Our prayers are with you all.

Condolence: I, too am shocked. Stephen came to work with my partner, Dave and I at the old Police College--C.O.Bick--many moons ago. Stephen had suffered a heart attack at a young age and was on light duties. He thought his "tour" with us would be a walk in the park, but alas it was not. He realized quickly how hard we worked teaching computer applications to members of the Service. He did us proud, supported us and learned a valuable life lesson, or so it seemed, mostly about the Civilian Branch of the Service and Instructors at the College. We, too learned from Stephen. I seem to recall he drove a Ford Ranger back then. My oldest daughter, Jennifer met Stephen when she came to visit me at work one time and fell in love, instantly! She thought he was very handsome...gentle and kind. When I hear or think "Adidas" I remember Stephen. I was sad for him when his marriage collapsed, and I tried to comfort him on occasion, while we sat together in a police facility where our paths had crossed again. Stephen was a true gentleman and as others have said so many times, in these posts I have read, Stephen was a positive spirit with great energy and a passion for life and living. I am glad to have known him and sad he passed so young. Condolences to all who knew and loved him. He will be missed! Carol Carpenter

Condolence: I met Stephen just a short 15 months ago but I needed less time that to know how special he was and what an impact he had on me. I am heartbroken, but will find comfort in knowing he is at peace. I had posted the following on FB on Thursday but knowing how private Stephen was, there was not the need to mention his name. ———————————————— I don’t usually write these kind of posts but I feel compelled to do so tonight... Have you ever met somebody that in a short period of time, had a significant impact on your life? I did. Today he passed away. Heaven is one star brighter and I see it out there tonight. This person exemplified so many wonderful qualities in being human. Being kind. Being compassionate. Being selfless. Always putting others needs ahead of his own. Always doing what is right. Always-In his personal life and in career having served with Toronto police for more than 30 years. I was so fortunate to have met this person and have him as a special friend. Life truly is a gift. It’s short, make it sweet. Don’t harbour any resentments or regrets. It’s never too late to make things right. I’m asking friends to do any small act of kindness over the coming days. No need to tell me, but doing so, for me, will honour this person that did so much for so many. Anything. A kind word. A hug. A donation to a worthy cause. (Hurricane Dorian a good one right now) You will never regret being kind. ————————————— My heartfelt condolences to you Jackie, your Dad and Steve M. and the rest of your family. I know how much he loved you all. Heaven has a special angel watching over you all. Love Lisa xo

Condolence: I am shocked to hear you are gone- I am so sorry your life ended so soon. I remember you very well from my shift at 12 Div - you always had a smile, positive upbeat attitude and energetic. You were an excellent Police Sergeant and great example to the troops. I remember the day you were going for your lazer eye surgery and how pumped you were about it. You also made my life a lot easier by supplying me with those Adidas shoe inserts at a bargain price. I only wish I had contacted you earlier. In my prayers.

Condolence: I just received information on Stephen's passing and I am very sorry to hear this. I had the pleasure of working with him at 12 Division Toronto Police for a number of years in his capacity as both a uniform Sergeant and as a Detective working alongside of me. Stephen was always a very eager and dedicated police officer who was always willing to jump in and lend a hand to others. He has left this world far too early and sadly never got to enjoy his retirement.
