Obituary for Shirley June Mader

Mader, Shirley June:

Born August 10, 1928, passed peacefully May 31, 2021 in her 93rd year.
Shirley grew up in the village of Breslau, ON. In 1948, she married her love, Donald Cressman and started to raise their family; Raymond Harold Cressman (predeceased) of Wallenstein, Peggy Lynn Cressman-Worboys of Cambridge and Terry James Cressman of Victoria, BC. All too soon, Don was taken from her in a workplace accident in Breslau on October 30, 1965.

Shirley truly enjoyed working as a senior nurse at Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, 1966 - 1980, when she married Cecil R. Mader. She also volunteered 35 years and also lived at Fairview for 15 and a half years. The last four in the Retirement Suites.

Shirley enjoyed knitting, gardening, canning, sewing and occasionally lending her hand at putting in a quilt in the Breslau Evangelical Missionary Church. Shirley taught Sunday School at BEMC and played the piano. She was also part of the neighbourhood diet club, called the 4K's - Kossuth Kalorie Konscious Kuties! Travelling with the diet club gals or a dear friend Joyce Shantz, Cecil and other family, across Canada, to the Yukon, across the U.S., England, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland gave Mom much to talk about.

Mom was a member of the Maple Grove Women's Institute, the Women's Missions Society (WMS) at BEMC and baked many, many pies for the Annual Breslau (Men's) Crokinole Tournaments. Mom loved hockey and was a faithful Maple Leafs fan much to Cecil's chagrin. History, reading, baking, KW Symphony, Stratford Festival theatre, supporting and praying for her family, neighbours and church family brought her much joy.

Shirley was a women of great faith and integrity, and will be greatly missed by her family, grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends, and will be welcomed into her Heavenly home, greeted with open arms by her Lord and Saviour, and all who loved her and have gone before her.

We love you Mom, keep laughing and we will see you again!

A very special thank you to all caregivers at Fairview Mennonite Home Retirement Suites, Grand River Hospital and G.R. Freeport Palliative Care Unit, and her after life care by Henry Walser Funeral Home.

A private graveside service will be held and a Celebration of Shirley's life will take place at a later date. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Mom, please donate to Diabetes Canada, Fairview Mennonite Home or a charity of your choice.
