The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Sheila Sullivan can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

For me, Sheila was a pillar. I met her at Columbus Boys Camp almost 40 years ago, and became one of so many who were unconditionally welcomed into her home and into her family. Our time together since then has included summers at three different camps, countless weddings and baptisms, protests for peace and justice, and a pilgrimage to Palestine. You have been a constant for me in these memorable life experiences. As I reflect back today, I realize that I have spent more time in the Sullivan home than in any other home other than my own. Sheila had a way of making you feel "at home" in her presence. Her home was our home - and that is a reality that can be verified by so many others who will celebrate your life in the coming weeks. I will miss that infectious laugh and that spirit of hospitality. The world seemed a little emptier earlier this week, but the visitation changed that for me. That laughter and hospitality filled the room as your family greeted guests with the grace and the warmth that so defines each of them. I left understanding that you have left your mark on so many people - and I am confident that your love will continue to touch others through those you have touched. Grace. A friend consoled me this week with the idea that you were going to a better place - an idea that people of faith often put forward at moments of loss. If "Heaven" could have the warmth, laughter and love of the Sullivan house - it truly would be a magical place. If my own journey ever takes me to such a place, I know I will hear you laughing. At Columbus Boys' Camp, we were taught that we stand on the shoulders of the giants who came before us. You have lifted us up, Sheila Sullivan. I am still sad; but I also feel blessed. Thank-you.
