Sheila Sullivan passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, on November 28th at the age of 75, surrounded by friends and family. Daughter of Eleanor and John Murphy; sibling to Paul, Dennis, Jack, Joan, Pat, Francis and Bill. Sheila will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 46 years, Dwyer Sullivan, and her four children and their families: Krestena (Ian Carswell – Quinn, Micah, & Kyla), Maura (Mark Connell – Noah, Simon, Nicholas & Clare), Peter (Cathleen Connell – Jack & Maeve), Paul-Micah (Chelsea Thomas – Rose, Fraser & Murphy) and also missed by many, many friends.

Sheila's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener. Prayers with Fr. Bob Holmes will take place at 8:30 p.m. Friday evening.

A private family service will take place on Saturday followed by interment at Parkview Cemetery.

A celebration of Sheila’s life will take place in the near future. Details to follow.

Dwyer has been trying to tack on a few extra words to describe Sheila and has managed to keep it to his typical minimum. Sheila is a loving, committed, caring, fun, compassionate, empathetic wife, mother, grandmother, Gogo, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and Godmother. She is also a hiker, white-water canoeist, long-distance swimmer, birthday card creator, excellent cook, food canner, cake decorator, possessor of a famously recognised laugh, feisty, generous, tolerant, honest, straight-forward, trickster, advocate for Palestine, Indigenous Peoples and the LGBTQI community, speaks truth to power, friend and inspirational source to so many, piano teacher and swim instructor for relatives, doula, avid protector against injustice, generous gift giver, flower gardener, hair dresser, teacher of many – in many areas, patient, hostess par excellence, known for generous hospitality, pushes people to be their best, match-maker, desire to celebrate, parent to many, activist, supporter of grandchildren’s endeavours, French advocate, story reader; co-founder of Camp Micah, the DR Cultural Experience, and the Canadian Parenting for Peace and Justice Network; member of two amazing all-women groups, big fan of the CBC, excellent seamstress, tough in the face of difficulty, artist, linguist, lip-kisser, calendar maker, interior designer, environmental practitioner, OECTA union member, advocate for equal rights for women, loving and loved by so many friends and relatives, observant house cleaner, cross-country skier, pastoral coordinator, renowned pie baker, respected matriarch, and half-marathon runner. Everyone who reads this will also have their own adjectives and stories to add to this list about our incredible Sheila.
