The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Ruth Atkinson can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Mark and Karen Kirkey

Let me begin by offering condolences to each of you; Brenda and John, Barb and Gerd, Bob and Monica and your families. My wife and I so wanted to attend your mother’s funeral to offer our condolences in person, however sickness hit our home in the wee hours of Sunday morning and kept us from all the days planned events. Although it has been many years since we have seen each other, our thoughts and memories remain so vivid that it feels like the yesterday’s remain closer than ever. I recall so many memories of life with Brenda and Barb, in your home on Kenneth Ave and the friendships that bloomed through the early days into our married lives, most especially with Brenda and John. But as so often happens, life direction and time can separate us even from the ones we loved so closely. However, nothing can take away the memories we hold so close to us or diminish the smiles that come to mind when we think on these things. Most surprisingly, is that I had recently been reminiscing about our younger days of snowmobiling, motorcycling, truck and camper trips and the hang gliding adventures, only to find the notice of your mom’s passing. Your mom and dad always treated us as family and those are cherished thoughts. We also know that regardless of how old and how well a life is lived, it is natural to mourn the loss to you as her children, in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. After the tears have dried and the goodbyes have been said, all we have to hold onto are the happy memories that we’ve shared with our loved ones who have passed, this is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds, and they will continue to live on, through us. Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, you have our deepest sympathies. Also please know that we cover you in our prayers, knowing that our God is the One who can bring you comfort, strength and peace even in times such as these, through the Grace and Mercy of Jesus Christ our Lord. With love, Mark and Karen Kirkey
