Dowhaniuk, Ruby (nee Fitzgerald):

Died peacefully, with family by her side, on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Innisfree House in Kitchener at the age of 68. Beloved wife of Ron for 42 years. Loving mother of Cara Dowhaniuk (Gary Rempel), David Dowhaniuk and Mary Dowhaniuk (Oswald Palacios). Cherished Cee Cee of Henry, Desmond and Audrey. Dear sister of Edward Fitzgerald, Joan McKibben and Jerry Fitzgerald (Lynda) and sister-in-law of Jack Norcott. Predeceased by parents, Thaddeaus and Ruby Fitzgerald, sisters, Barbara Norcott and Jean Power and brothers-in-law, Grant McKibben and Tom Power, sister-in law Brenda Fitzgerald. Fondly remembered by Tammy Ferraccioli (Rob) and many other nieces and nephews.

She faced life with love, courage, determination and a sheer force of will. She expected much of others, but she expected more of herself. She loved her family greatly, and would do anything for them. She could be heard saying, more then once, "I am sick and tired, of being so sick and tired."
She is greatly missed.
Local Costco fears significant declining sales. ☺

Private cremation has taken place with final resting place at Williamsburg Cemetery. Ruby's life will be celebrated privately at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.

As expressions of sympathy, please consider donating blood to Canadian Blood Services in honour of Ruby.

I was very sorry to hear the news of Ruby's passing. I am thankful that I had the chance to get to know Ruby. She had a genuine interest in people and such a deep love for her family (about whom she spoke to me about often). She had a smile that could light up a room and she was such a classy lady. I am glad to have met her. She will be missed. Deepest condolences to Ron and family.

Losing someone we love is never easy. No more dropping by to share a cup of tea with her or watch a movie she recorded which I should have vetted before sitting down with treats or a drink... LOL..we didn’t do it often enough but I am thankful for those times. I always admired her strength and courage. Ruby did whatever was necessary to prolong her life together with the loving assistance of her husband and family.

Ruby was known for her perseverance. She struggled through many trying times and her adopted kidneys were well cared for. Even if she was unhappy with me, she couldn’t escape me.. there I was, a little piece of me tucked inside helping her pee.

Surviving kidney disease was not an option... she had to be there to see her children grow, her husband thrive, her grandchildren arrive. Her family was everything to her. She was a loving wife, mother and Cee Cee. Her memories will be passed on to her grandchildren.. she will not be forgotten, her habits of buying in bulk “just in case” will be passed down through the ages.. but most of all, she will always be loved. ... love you Ruby... I hope the kidney connection will survive death.. if you have any message you need to get through to Ron or the kids, send it to my surviving kidney via the cloud.. I will miss you, love joani
