Obituary for Roy Dawson

Dawson, Roy:
1930-2021
Passed at Freeport Hospital on Friday, May 7, 2021.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 70 years, June Dawson (nee Drake); beloved children Deborah (Robert) Bauer of Tillsonburg and Bruce Dawson (Mark Hartburg) of Kitchener; and much-loved grandchildren Paul Bauer (Brigitte Goffin) of Wynnum (Queensland) Australia and Kathryn Bauer (Mike Wryebeck) of Dundas.
Predeceased by his parents John and Jessie Dawson, and only brother Jack (Beth).
Roy was born and raised in Galt. He began his working life in shoe manufacturing with Scott-Air Step Shoes in Galt and Savage Shoes in Preston and Toronto, which included outside sales in the Toronto area and northern Ontario. After local shoe manufacturing declined, the family relocated to Forest Hill in Kitchener. His sales career then shifted to packaging, working for Abitibi-Price, Quigley-Morphy and Serpac, retiring at age 72.
In early years Roy was active with the Kinsmen Clubs in Galt and Preston. He was a supporter of his wife, daughter and grandchildren (and their ice-dance partners) who were active in the KW Skating Club.
An avid tag-along camper, in retirement Roy and June enjoyed many trips to the shores of Lakes Huron and Erie, as well as to Florida.
The family thanks our own Registered Nurse, Bruce, and husband Mark for taking such good care of Roy. Thanks also to the staff at Grand River Hospital and Freeport Palliative Unit for their excellent care.
Arrangements are with Henry Walser Funeral Home, 519-749-8467. Cremation and a private family interment have taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Grand River Hospital Foundation would be appreciated (cards available at the funeral home).
