Obituary for Ronald Steinman Sauer

SAUER, Ronald (Ron) Steinman
peacefully at Innisfree House in the early morning of Friday, September 6, 2019, after being surrounded with the love of family, friends, and the music of Mozart, Beethoven and the Beach Boys during the day.
Born January 15, 1940 in Fort Erie, ON.
Beloved husband of Margaret (Marg) (Collins) Sauer, fondly remembered by brother-in-law Jerome (Leonora) Collins and sister-in-law Mary Jo (Harold) Ralf. Also fondly remembered by the Furtney, Hyde and Benner cousins and their families.
Dear uncle-in-law of many nieces and nephews, and their very special children who loved ‘their uncle’ dearly.
Predeceased by parents Merritt and Hazel Sauer, and mother-in-law Jean Collins.
Raised in Welland, Ontario, attended Pelham District High School in Fenwick; worked at the Atlas Steels plant in Welland, then attended Waterloo Lutheran University (now Wilfrid Laurier). After attending Stratford Teachers’ College, Ron was hired by the Kitchener Board of Education in 1967; taught at Courtland Senior Public School, then was promoted to Mathematics Consultant for the Waterloo Region District School Board and was subsequently named to the position of Co-ordinator of Mathematics K-12. As well, Ron published mathematics textbooks used in Ontario schools and, in conjunction with colleagues, wrote Rich Learning Tasks which sold in Australia. After retiring, Ron and Marg spent many summers with family and friends at their Oliphant cottage while enjoying numerous other activities and travels throughout the year.
The family would like to express its sincerest gratitude to the Grand River Hospital ICU doctors and nurses, the staff at Innisfree House and the Henry Walser staff. Their care and guidance were second-to-none.

At Ron’s request, cremation has taken place and will be followed by a private interment. Ron's family will receive relatives and friends from 12-1:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A Celebration of Ron's Life will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Reception to follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Mennonite Central Committee or Innisfree House would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
