Cardwell, Roderick James Douglas
1969-2023
We are saddened to announce the passing of our son, Roderick James Douglas Cardwell who after recovering from a stroke in 2018, passed unexpectedly at home of a heart attack April 30.
Rod worked at Richelieu Hardware on Wilson Avenue, Kitchener for 13 years. He was a devoted employee who valued each day working alongside his colleagues and friends. Rod was a huge Star Wars, anime and movie fan, and an avid comic book fan, gamer and miniature painter. He frequented the KW comic book and board game community with his good friend, Peter Esztelecky and was known as "Mr. Mayor".
Rod was a gentle soul and was always happy gathering around the table at the family cottage playing board and card games.
Rod will be deeply missed by his mom and dad Edie and Carl, sister Nicole (Luke), step-niece Acacia, aunt Debra, and his other loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Roderick's family will hold a Celebration of his life and receive relatives and friends from 4:30-7:30pm on his birthday on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Memories will be shared starting at 5:30pm. As per Rod's wishes, please dress casual and in your favorite 'fandom' shirt.
As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Food Bank and Ray of Hope would be appreciated in honour of Rod.
