Obituary for Richard Gostel

Gostel, Richard (July 31, 1959 - May 29, 2021)

Richard passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 29. Predeceased by his father Albert Gostel (2020). Survived by his mother Elisabeth Gostel, brothers Albert (Margaret) and Alfred, his three nephews Nick, Steven and Andrew Gostel, and his two grand-nieces Kacie and Anna. Rick was loved by the many aunts, uncles and cousins that will miss him dearly.
Rick started his long-time career after apprenticing at Stratford Meat Packers and graduated from George Brown College as a butcher/sausage maker. To be closer to family he took a job at Hoffman’s Meats for a number of years and then he ventured out on his own to start Gostel Brothers' Meats where he passionately created bacon, German-style sausage and cold cuts that have been loved by his family and loyal customers for thirty years. With his busy schedule and off-shift hours Rick really enjoyed and appreciated spending time snowmobiling, four wheeling and fishing with his family, as well as playing poker with friends. In 2011 Rick and his brother Alfred who were business partners decided to retire and live life to the fullest.

Rick's family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Please note if you plan to attend, masks are mandatory and you must RSVP through the funeral home website or by calling 519-749-8467.
