Obituary for Rev. Reynold Kipfer

Passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024 at Grand River Hospital (Freeport Site) at the age of 89, moving on to meet his Lord and Saviour.

Beloved husband of Joanne (nee Reist) for 63 years.

Loving Dad of Sharon Kipfer (David Caswell) of London, England, and Sheila (Tom) Arndt.

Dear Grandpa of Jordan Arndt (Rachel Wagner) and Dylan (Lindsay) Arndt.

Recent Great-Grandpa of Rhys Arndt.

Predeceased by his parents Nurias and Irene (Zehr) Kipfer, sister Beulah and brother Orval.

Lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews and cousins.

Precious and loyal friend to many he met over the years.

As a young man in the mid 1950's, Reynold volunteered through the Mennonite Conference (MCC) for two years in Jordan and Israel, handing out food and clothing to refugees. Upon returning home, he entered Bible College and trained for pastoral ministry. After graduation he wanted to gain some experience under a Senior Pastor and did so for 1.5 years in Toronto. His full time ministry took him to Regina and Guernsey, SK, Brandon, MB, and Kincardine and Ayr, ON.

After retiring, he served 5 local churches in SW Ontario by filling interim pastoral roles. He also spent 5 years as director for Youth For Christ in SW Manitoba.

He loved life and travelled to many countries with wife Joanne, who also partnered with him in Ministry. He had a special way of engaging others and enjoyed hearing their stories and telling his.

Friends and family enjoyed his sense of humour which he was known for and kept things from getting too serious.

He enjoyed antiques and classic cars, of which he owned a few. Over the years he collected license plates from every American state and Canadian province. He enjoyed golfing and curling with friends and cheered on several professional sports teams in later years.

His progressive dementia gradually reduced his ability to interact and function fully in day-to-day life. The family appreciates the compassionate care given by medical staff, who made his final days on earth as comfortable as possible.

He will be missed.
