Obituary for Peter Turi

Turi, Peter:

Passed away on June 06, 2021 at Grand River Hospital at the age of 78.

Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Viktoria Turi. Loving father of Peter (Karin) Turi, Tibor Turi and loving friend of Ingrid Njenhuis.
Opa will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Samantha, Elizabeth and Rebecca. Survived by his sister Pat (Ted) Deosaran, nephews Dennis (Mona) and David (Cheryl). Fondly remembered by Ljerka (Ann) Turi.

Peter Turi was born on November 11, 1942 in Novi Sad in the former Yugoslavia. He worked in Zagreb for ZET as a streetcar mechanic, where he suffered a serious hand injury. But you wouldn’t know it as it never stopped him from doing anything he set out to do.

Peter and his young family immigrated to Kitchener, Ontario in the spring of 1974 to join his parents and sister. He took a job at Pannill Veneer while completing his Stationary Engineer Class 4 Certification. At the same time, he worked at Madison Steel, and then moved to New Hamburg to work for Stanley Hardware. Peter then returned to Kitchener to finish his career at the Waterloo Regional Catholic School Board, where he was much loved by the students and faculty alike at both Resurrection and St. David’s High Schools.

Peter enjoyed nature. He often went to Goderich, Bellwood Lake and Killbear Park to camp and fish with his family and friends. For many summers, and well into his retirement, he enjoyed lounging on the beach during the day and hosting campfires at his park model home in Southampton Ontario. Peter enjoyed travelling and made friends everywhere he went. Even during COVID he managed to travel to Portugal for a 3 month vacation!

He enjoyed his family. He enjoyed his friends. He enjoyed his life.

Peter's family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, June 12 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
