Passed away peacefully with dignity at Freeport Hospital, Kitchener, Ontario.

Leaves behind his precious wife and best friend Doreen. They were married for 45 wonderful years on September 21, 1974.

Predeceased by his parents Earl and Bertha (McCormick) Shantz and his sister Carol who passed away in infancy.

Neil will be sadly missed by all his family and many friends. Everyone thought of Neil as a father figure, friend, role model, mentor and brother. Many people looked up to him as an intelligent great man. Neil was a life-long member of St. Joseph's Parish where he was actively involved. Neil and Doreen were a very active couple involved in many organizations and clubs.They had many great years enjoying their trailer at the Pioneer Sportsmen Club on the Grand River. Neil took great pride working at McKerlie Automotive (Car Quest) for 43 and a half years. He also enjoyed working part-time for Waterloo Credit Union for 25 years. He will always be in our hearts and will be greatly missed.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. - 2 Timothy 4:7.

Neil's family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Parish prayers at 8:30 p.m. Mass will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church 148 Madison Ave. S. Kitchener, Ontario on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the church hall. Private cremation will take place following the service with interment at Woodland Cemetery at later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington, or Canandian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
