Obituary for Mike Weiler

Weiler, Michael "Mike" John:

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael John Weiler, on Saturday January 27, 2024 at Hospice Waterloo Region, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was 67 years of age.

Mike is predeceased by his parents, Audrey (nee Gellatly) and Walter Weiler, his two sisters, Donna Weiler and Barbara Weiler Howe, and his brother-in-law, David Howe. Mike is survived by his devoted sister, Betty Jane and her husband, Henry Roth. Uncle Mike forged close relationships with his nieces and nephews who adored him; including James Howe, Susan and Ian McIsaac, Christine and Andrew Gibbons, Stephen Roth and Dale Hobbs, Jeffrey Roth, Eric Roth and Timothy Roth. He was much loved by his great-nieces and nephews; Justine, Evelyn, Henry, Charlie, Russell, Lauren, Evan, Amanda, Benjamin and Sarah. Mike cherished his lifelong friend, Brenda VanDerSluis. Also close to his heart was "Dave the Cat", his constant companion.

Mike cultivated numerous friendships over the years working at Nordia, attending Loyalist College in Kingston, working as a radio DJ in Belleville and finally as an Addictions Counsellor at Grand River Hospital. He devoted a significant portion of his life to Alcoholics Anonymous, where he both received and provided support to numerous individuals facing the challenges of alcohol addiction. Mike was presented with his 25 year medallion of sobriety and recited the Serenity Prayer, together with his family and friends, hours before he passed.

We are grateful for Dr. Yew, who provided Mike with the special care he needed, and Hospice Waterloo Region, which was a source of comfort for Mike and his family in his final days.

Mike's family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Wednesday January 31, 2024 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
