Obituary for Mike Bergauer
Mike Bergauer (aka "Mr. Music"), in his ninetieth year, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2023 surrounded by family. He is predeceased by his parents John and Barbara Bergauer, brother John, and wife Adie-Jane (A-J). Loving father to Michelle, Val Slomke (Jeff), Michael (Anita), Tony (Lisa), and grandfather to Brett, Scott (Michelle), Caiden and Conor. Great-grandfather to Jason, Olivia, Hudson and Nolan. He will also be missed by the multitude of students and musicians whose lives he touched. We wish to extend our gratitude for the loving care that Mike received at Winston Park, in both the retirement and long-term care residences.
Mike started his career as a trumpet player on the radio and went on to teach for the Waterloo Catholic District school board for 35 years. As a band leader Mike mentored many students who became musicians in his many bands. His career also included that of composer, arranger, and conductor. After retiring from teaching in 1989 he focused on gardening, and becoming an artist in the field of wood working.
A mass will be held at St. Louis R.C Church (53 Allen St. E., Waterloo) on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 @ 7:00 p.m. There will be a private family interment at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home (507 Frederick St., Kitchener, ON, 519-749-8467).
As expressions of sympathy and In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society - Dementia Research.
A celebration of his wonderful life will be held on June 4, 2023 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at Bingeman Park (Marshall Hall), where we can gather, share memories and listen to live music.
