Obituary for Mary Helen Stroeder

Stroeder, (Hishon) Mary Helen:

Passed into the arms of her Lord at St. Mary's Hospital on June 2, 2022, at the age of 76.

Wife of Hugh Stroeder for 52 years and dear mother to Dan of Essex, U.K.
Cherished sister-in-law of Wilbert (Joan), Frances Bardar, Lorraine (Bob) Martin, Rosemary (Ken) Neisen, Ron (Judy), Cecile Plester, Mary Stroeder, and Bob Millen.
Predeceased by young sons, Steven and Peter, parents Dan and Anna (Flaherty) Hishon, parents-in-law Ernest and Loretta Stroeder, sister-in-law Betty Millen, brothers-in-law Joe Stroeder and Terry Plester.
Mary Helen attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, St. Mary’s High School and St. Mary’s School of Nursing. She was extremely proud of her profession as a nurse at St. Mary’s General Hospital where she served for over 35 years.

A woman of faith, always willing to volunteer time and talent, she was president of the Kitchener-Waterloo Serra Club. She had served on the board of St. Mary’s General Hospital and was active in her parish as a member of Parish Council, an executive member and past-president of the Catholic Women’s League, a reader and choir member, an enthusiastic and helpful participant in all parish events. She organized the ‘Class of 69’ Nurses Reunions. Mary Helen added ‘class’ to every event.
She was extremely thankful for good neighbours, relatives, friends and classmates who were generous in providing support in the form of visits, phone calls, meals and prayers.

A very special thank you to the healthcare professionals and caregivers at St. Mary's Hospital who gave her comfort and care.

Mary Helen's family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Teresa's Church, 44 Leonard Street on Saturday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery followed by a reception in the church hall.
