Obituary for Mario Agate

Agate, Mario

Life is a gift and our Mario, knowing this, packed as much living into his 86 year life as he could. Born in Palermo Italy, "the most beautiful country in the world", Mario was one of five siblings. His childhood was happily spent enjoying the sunshine and beaches of Sicily. He graduated from university and spent his whole career in banking. During this phase of life he was married (Angela, still a cherished friend) and had four children whom he adored; Fabiana (Luigi), Mauro (Claudia), Laura and Gloria. Then came his two beloved grandchildren, Angelo and Alice and the newest member of the family, Letizia.

In 1981, fate brought Mario and Marilyn together and oh how he loved to tell that tale! They spent the rest of his life together in love, living out the years both in Palermo and from 1990, in Canada. There he got to know and love Marilyn's family, Wendy, Bob and their sons Matthew and Bradley and their families.

Mario was a guy who loved to be active; biking, soccer, music, canoeing, singing, swimming, walking, cooking and even embracing new activities like golf and skiing in Canada. The kindness of Mario's heart and his unlimited generosity was evident from the years he spent volunteering for the Alzheimer Society. He was always ready to help whenever and wherever he could.

Mario loved people and nothing pleased him more than having people in and preparing supper for them. As he aged, he always wanted to do his coffee run to Williams to see and chat with his friends there. Yes, Mario touched many lives and will always be cherished by his family and close friends.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will take place at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
