Obituary for Maria Peixoto

Maria Amorim Peixoto passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at The Village of Winston Park at the age of 90.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Joaquim Rocha (2022). Maria will be dearly missed by her children Fátima Alves (Américo), Tony Rocha (Clara) and São Fernandes (Joe). As well as her grandchildren Ana (Hernan), Monica (Sabrina), Elizabete, Jessica (Vincenzo), Marcelo, Alex (Danica) and Tiago.

Predeceased by her parents Antonio Joaquim Peixoto and Gloria De Amorim, and by her sister Rosa (late José). Survived by her siblings Lucinda, Isaura (Manuel), Manuel (late Maria), Aurora (Antonio) and João (Rosa). Fondly remembered by many family members in Portugal, France, Canada and Brazil.

Maria was born in Codeceda, Vila Verde, Portugal. She married the love of her life, Joaquim, whom she maintained a long distance relationship with for almost 9 years before getting married in 1965. Maria immigrated to Brazil to join her husband, where they had three children and owned a family business, in which they worked together with love. That love was reciprocated by and respected throughout their community. Maria and her family then immigrated to Canada in 1992 where she enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren.

Maria had an overwhelmingly peaceful soul and kind heart. Throughout her life, she remained grounded by her husband Joaquim. Together, they shared a calming and nurturing presence, and boundless love for each other.

While soft, Maria had a powerful smile that spoke for her and the limited patience she expressed for the humour of her husband made everyone laugh. She enjoyed cooking and baking with her family, and had a similar love for nature as Joaquim.

Maria and Joaquim's devotion to faith and Our Lady of Fátima was displayed daily as they were commonly seen praying the rosary together.

A special thanks to the staff at Winston Park for all the love they gave our parents each day and for the support and compassion they showed us during this difficult time.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
