Always a bright spirit

I don't recall my Grandmother ever being angry. I remember visiting her when I was young and she was always welcoming, positive and so giving. She let me raid her closet when I was excited to find very colorful polyester shirts form the 1970s! Every year she encouraged us to look through the Sears catalogue to find what we wanted for Christmas. The year before she passed away, she told me she always wanted to play piano. I took her over to the upright piano in the room and encouraged her to push a few keys. She tried a bit then paused, reflecting and said "I just never took the time to learn myself, it was more important to me, that my kids got to do it". "Oh well" she said shrugging it off and not being concerned at all, like she always does :) Even in her final years, although she was in pain, when I came to sing at her retirement home, she was my #1 fan, so encouraging and supportive. She would clap along to the songs, bopping her head and tapping her toes, and looked so happy and proud. I will always remember that look, her constant kindness, humility and love. The only thing I have ever seen her upset or concerned about was the family not being together. "The hardest part about growing old" she told me "is watching many others you know and love pass away". I hope you are with those others now Love you and miss you Grandma Nicole
