Obituary for Lydia Christine Martin

Lydia Christina Martin (Sobala), aged 77, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2022 in Kitchener, Ontario.

Born May 28, 1944 in Grosssteiburg, Germany to her Polish parents, Wyncenty and Josefa Sobala, the family survived WWII in a farm camp and immigrated to Kitchener in 1948.

Lydia loved flowers and was an avid gardener and member of horticultural societies. A life-long learner, she had many other hobbies, including riding, quilting, knitting, cooking, golf, bridge, book clubs, and sailing. Her career spanned accounting, bed-and-breakfast, and gardening activities.

Lydia is survived by her sister, Halina (Bob) Rostig, her sons David (Sarah), Stephen (Adriana), and Andrew (Vivian) Locky, and grandchildren, Khyll, Rosemary, Michael, and William.

A Celebration of Life will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467.
