Obituary for Kelly Rose Fowlie

Kelly Rose Fowlie

Beloved wife and life partner of 28 years to Nickolas Fowlie passed away at St. Mary's hospital on Friday, January 13 th , 2023 at the age of 62.

Survived by her loving husband, children, and grandchildren.

Kelly was born and raised in Surrey, BC by her mother Audrey May Burton and her father Achille Cyril Vermeersch Jr. along with her 5 brothers. Growing up her family would compete in bowling tournaments together which Kelly continued to do well into her adult life.

One day in 1994 she decided to pop into a local pub after a bowling tournament and she met the love of her life, Nickolas Fowlie. Kelly and Nick fell into a very heavy romance and started to build their life together, blending their two families from previous relationships into one while residing in South Delta, British Columbia. Kelly and Nick were married on October 4 th , 2008 in Tsawwassen, British Columbia and the adventure of their life continued as husband and wife in Cambridge, Ontario.

One of the many exciting adventures Kelly and Nick had experienced was opening a café known as Kofecana which was highly regarded in Ladner, particularly as a result of her magnetic and endearing personality.

Kelly had a love for carpentry, which was passed done from her father. She had more tools than most dream about! Her passions were endless, fishing, billiards - she was a pool shark, poker legend and lady luck with almost anything she touched.

Not only did Kelly have a vibrant personality and ability to have such success in all aspects of her life; she had tremendous strength and unfathomable courage throughout her life. At the very young age of 18 she was diagnosed with SLE (Lupus) and had gone through very difficult stages throughout her life associated to this disease. In 2020 Kelly had faced a new hurdle, she had been diagnosed with Lymphoma which she had beaten. Throughout all of this she never complained about how she was feeling, always had a loving smile, and was always extending words of love and encouragement to others in her very selfless way.

Kelly is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Nickolas Fowlie. Her children; Crystal Dickson, Rob (Marianne) Dickson, and Sarah Dickson. Stepchildren; Nicole Fowlie (Olivier), and Christopher Fowlie. Her Grandchildren; Evan Douglas-Fish, Alicia Douglas-Fish, Penelope Dickson, Annabelle Dickson, Elliot Dickson, Tenaya Dickson, Chantelle Fowlie, and Alexandra Morais. Her siblings; Ken (Wendy) Martin, Kerry (Wendy) Vermeersch, Keith Vermeersch, Kim (Tracee) Vermeersch and her late brother Kevin (Rumiko) Vermeersch, Achille Vermeersch III, Shaun Vermeersch, Christopher Vermeersch, sister Eva Vermeersch, and Stepmother Anita Vermeersch. Among the immediate family comes an even larger part of her extended family that Kelly held dear.

The amount of lives that Kelly managed to touch within her shortened life is truly incredible and with each of those people there are so many stories of laughter, thoughtful moments, happy times, and incredible fond memories. Kelly had a fond love for all her family and friends, she will be deeply missed by all.
