The Heart of the Family

Granny was the heart of the family and plays part in so many of my memories that will be carried on for years to come. My earliest memories were at her house on Greenbrook and I was obsessed with her cat, Greychin (who was not quite so fond of me). This was followed by fun memories at her high rise where Christina and I would dress up in her scarves, high heels and clip-on earrings. At Marshall St. she taught me to play cards, taught me how to knit and started to let me have coffee every day after lunch. She is the reason for my love of coffee and I still drink it just like her. When I was in university I would visit her once a week at lunch, and she would feed me (and my friends too!) We celebrated all of the holidays together with traditions like the Bunny Cake (carried on from the generation before), the Oktoberfest Parade followed by sausage and sauerkraut, and Christmas was always so full with family and laughter. Summers, we always looked forward to our annual family picnic complete with watermelon spitting contests, games, and of course the rip-roaring dice game where there was always that one prize we all fought over! Granny would always have her whistle to keep us all in line! In 1986 the Loonie was put in circulation and from that day forward every time we saw her we would look forward to getting a Loonie...and if she forgot to give it to us she would find a way to get it delivered. She carried this tradition on with her great grandchildren as well! She loved all of us with all her heart. And when great grandchildren started arriving her heart became even more full. Nothing made her happier than her family and friends. She led such a full and wonderful life, with such positivity. A true inspiration. Love you so much, Granny. May you Rest In Peace.
