Caravaggio, Josephine (nee Merlino)

With saddened hearts, and surrounded by her family, we are announcing the passing of an amazing mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother Josephine Caravaggio after a long battle with dementia on Thursday, April 21, 2022 in her 90th year.

Cherished and beloved wife to the late Raymond Anthony Caravaggio of 62 years before he passed away six years ago. Loving mother and mother-in-law to Rick Caravaggio (Jan), Marie Peever (John) and the late Judy Iutzi nee Caravaggio (2003) (Michael Iutzi).

Cherished grandmother to Brittany Othmer (Kyle), Hailey Caravaggio (Tony Congi), Kristie Greggain (Luc), Jordan Peever (Jessica), Ryan Iutzi (Torey) and Taylor Iutzi and the late Abby Iutzi (1990).

Proud great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren.

Josie was the best Nana/Grandma and was always willing to try anything with her grandchildren that was asked of her, making a strong bond with them that will never be forgotten. We are all very greatful to have a mother and grandmother that embraced each day with optimism and positivity. She treasured her children and cherished every moment with them.

Josie was a wonderful sister, sister-in-law, aunty and friend to many family members in Hamilton that will her greatly miss her.

Her life long friend Helen Williamson and her husband Dr. Elliot were always there to visit and comfort her through many hard and happy times. A best friend to Josie like no other. Their kindness and guidance never went unnoticed.

Josie grew up in Hamilton with her large extended family from Italy. After marrying Ray they moved to Guelph for a few years before residing in Kitchener where they raised their family. On the street they lived for over 50 years, Josie would have a bottomless pot of "Java" on the stove for many visitors that would pop in everyday.

A life beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.

Mothers bring us into this world it's hard to imagine living without them.
